Paul Koretz for LA City Controller

I’m very excited to be running for Los Angeles City Controller. Our exceptional current Controller Ron Galperin cannot run again because of term limits. The City Controller can have a huge impact on our quality of life in Los Angeles and I hope you’ll support me in this significant citywide campaign.

I have served for over 12 years on the West Hollywood City Council, six years as a state legislator, and 12 years as a Los Angeles City Councilmember. During that time, I’ve prioritized ending homelessness, protecting public health, helping small businesses, improving public safety, making government more efficient and accountable, fighting climate change, standing up for the rights of workers and working families, supporting animal welfare, and modernizing transit.

The Controller is able to conduct policy audits by engaging departments to determine which city programs are working and which could be administered in a more cost effective and efficient way. For example, I’d be able to audit the City’s methodology of providing homeless services and determine how we may get more value for each dollar we spend working to end homelessness. We spend a lot of money on public safety; could we do so in a more efficient way? We are trying to take a leadership role nationally in fighting climate change, but are we taking all the logical steps and doing it efficiently? My serving as Controller would also give me a great opportunity to continue to identify efficiencies that would improve the city’s effectiveness and save the city money. My experience having served on the City’s Budget & Finance Committee, having chaired the Audits & Government Efficiency Committee, and currently chairing the Personnel, Audits, and Animal Welfare Committee will serve me well in this position.

I’m proud to have support from Mayor Eric Garcetti, California Assembly Speaker Anthony Rendon, US Senator Alex Padilla, Council President Nury Martinez, Congresswoman Maxine Waters, former LA City Controller Dr. Rick Tuttle, George Takei, Delores Huerta, Ed Begley, Jr., Lily Tomlin, and hundreds of other elected officials, organizations, and community leaders. I will bring the same energy and vision to the Office of the City Controller that I’ve brought throughout my career. But I can’t do it on my own. Your support would make all the difference.

Thank you for your consideration.

Stay healthy and safe,

Paul Koretz
